Palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 is a fragment of a type I collagen molecule. It acts as a neurotransmitter, stimulates production of collagen and other major extracellular matrix proteins. Together with palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, it works synergistically and significantly increases the amount of collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin. Evidence for the efficacy of these two peptides is provided by various in vitro and in vivo studies.
