Solar cell, also known as "solar chip" or "photocell", is a kind of photoelectric semiconductor sheet that uses sunlight to generate electricity directly. Single solar cell can not be used as power supply directly. For power supply, a number of single solar cells must be connected in series, parallel and tightly packed into components.

Under the influence of the electric field of the p-n junction, the holes flow from the p region to the N region, and the electrons flow from the N region to the p region. This is how photovoltaic solar cells work.
There are two ways of solar power generation, one is light heat electricity conversion, the other is light electricity direct conversion.
(1) the light heat electricity conversion mode uses the heat energy generated by the solar radiation to generate electricity. Generally, the heat energy absorbed is converted into the steam of working medium by the solar collector, and then the steam turbine is driven to generate electricity. The former is the optical thermal conversion process; the latter is the thermal electrical conversion process.
(2) the direct conversion of light and electricity is to use the photoelectric effect to convert the solar radiation energy into electric energy directly. The basic device of the conversion of light and electricity is solar cell. Solar cell is a device that directly converts solar light energy into electric energy due to photovoltaic effect. It is a semiconductor photodiode. When the sun shines on the photodiode, the photodiode will change the solar light energy into electric energy and generate current. When many cells are connected in series or in parallel, they can become solar cell arrays with relatively large output power.

At present, crystalline silicon materials (including polycrystalline silicon and monocrystalline silicon) are the most important photovoltaic materials, with a market share of more than 90%, and they will still be the mainstream materials of solar cells for a long time in the future.
The production technology of polysilicon materials has long been in the hands of 10 factories of 7 companies in three countries, such as the United States, Japan and Germany, forming a situation of technology blockade and market monopoly.
The demand for polysilicon mainly comes from semiconductors and solar cells. According to different purity requirements, it can be divided into electronic level and solar level. Among them, about 55% are used in electronic grade polysilicon and 45% in solar grade polysilicon
With the rapid development of photovoltaic industry, the growth rate of demand for polysilicon of solar cells is higher than that of semiconductor polysilicon. It is expected that the demand for solar polysilicon will exceed that of electronic polysilicon by 2008.
In 1994, the total output of solar cells in the world was only 69mw, while in 2004, it was nearly 1200mW, increasing 17 times in just 10 years. Experts predict that the solar photovoltaic industry will surpass nuclear power in the first half of the 21st century as one of the most important basic energy sources.
Solar panel composition and functions:
(1) toughened glass: its function is to protect the main body of power generation (such as battery piece), and its selection of light transmission is required:
1. Light transmittance must be high (generally over 91%); 2. Ultra white steel treatment.
(2) EVA: it is used to bond and fix toughened glass and power generation main body (battery piece). The quality of transparent EVA material directly affects the service life of components. EVA exposed in the air is prone to aging and yellowing, thus affecting the light transmittance of components, thus affecting the power generation quality of components. In addition to the quality of EVA itself, the lamination process of component manufacturers also has a great impact, such as the EVA adhesive connectivity is not up to standard If the bonding strength of EVA with toughened glass and back plate is not enough, it will lead to early aging of EVA and affect the service life of components.
(3) battery: the main function is to generate electricity. The main market of power generation is crystal silicon solar cells and thin film solar cells, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Crystalline silicon solar cells have relatively low equipment cost, but high consumption and battery cost, but also high photoelectric conversion efficiency, so it is suitable to generate electricity in outdoor sunlight.
Thin film solar cells are relatively high in equipment cost, but low in consumption and battery cost. However, the photoelectric conversion efficiency is more than half that of crystalline silicon cells, but the weak light effect is very good. They can also generate electricity under ordinary light, such as solar cells on calculators.
(4) back plate: function, sealing, insulation and waterproof. Generally, TPT, TPE and other materials must be resistant to aging. Most component manufacturers have a warranty of 25 years. Tempered glass and aluminum alloy generally have no problem. The key is whether the backplane and silica gel can meet the requirements.
(5) aluminum alloy: protect the laminated parts and play a certain role of sealing and supporting.
(6) junction box: protect the whole power generation system and play the role of current transfer station. If the module short-circuit junction box automatically disconnects the short-circuit battery string, the most important thing to prevent burning out the whole system junction box is the selection of diodes. According to the type of battery chip in the module, the corresponding diodes are different.
(7) silica gel: it is used to seal the junction between components and aluminum alloy frame, components and junction box. Some companies use double-sided adhesive tape and foam to replace silica gel. Silica gel is widely used in China, with simple technology, convenience, easy operation and low cost.
