What is turmeric ?
Curcumin, the principal curcuminoid found in the spice turmeric(Curcuma longa L.), has long been used in Asian medicine to treat a
variety of maladies. Curcumin is yellow in color and is used to make curry powder thus giving it the distinctive color. Its
chemical makeup is responsible for the yellow coloring of turmeric, and is often used specifically to give color to foods.
Curcumin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antifungal actions. Studies have shown that curcumin is not toxic to
humans. Curcumin exerts anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of different molecules that play an important role in
inflammation.Turmeric is effective in reducing post-surgical inflammation. Turmeric helps to prevent atherosclerosis by reducing
the formation of bloods clumps.
