Leaves alternate or nearly opposite, oblong to nearly lanceolate, leathery, marginal cartilaginous, involute, green, shiny, glabrous, with thick petioles. Panicles axillary or nearly terminal. Flowers white, perianth lobes, filaments pilose, flat, anthers oval-oblong, ovary ovoid. Fruit oval, dark purple when mature, glabrous, shallowly cupped. Flowering period from June to August, fruiting period from October to December.
