Product Description

Hafnium Rod-Bar

"Hafnium Rod" usually refers to a rod-shaped material made of hafnium element. Hafnium is a chemical element with the chemical symbol Hf and atomic number 72. It is a transition metal that belongs to the lanthanide series and is part of the second series of transition metals in the periodic table. The content of hafnium in the earth's crust is relatively low, and it often appears together with zirconium (Zr) because the two elements have similar chemical properties and are difficult to separate.

Size Dia: 5 mm - 100 mm
Purity Hf+Zr > 99.98%, Zr < 1%
Standard ASTM B737
Surface Polished
Condition Cold rolled(Y), Hot rolled(R), Annealed (M), Quenching (C)
Shape Square Bar, Round Bar, Hexagonal Bar, etc.

Hafnium and its alloys have special applications in the nuclear industry and other fields due to their following properties:
1. High melting point: Hafnium has a high melting point, which allows it to remain stable in high temperature environments.
2. Good neutron absorption capacity: Hafnium has a high absorption cross-section for neutrons, so it can be used as a control rod material in nuclear reactors to help regulate the reaction rate.
3. Corrosion resistance: Hafnium, similar to titanium and zirconium, has excellent corrosion resistance and is not easily corroded even in high temperatures or acidic environments.
4. Biocompatibility: Because some hafnium alloys are relatively inert to human tissue, they can be used in medical devices, such as certain components of cardiac pacemakers.

Hafnium rods may be used in the following areas:

Nuclear industry: used as control rod material in reactors of nuclear power plants.
Medical Technology: In medical devices where biocompatibility and corrosion resistance are required.
Aerospace: In aerospace components requiring high temperature resistance and lightweight materials.
Chemical Processing: Hafnium’s corrosion resistance makes it suitable for use in a variety of reactors and vessels in chemical processes.

Because hafnium is a rare and expensive material, its applications are generally limited to those specialized fields that require its unique properties.
