The leaves are heteromorphic, the lower leaves are ovate, undivided, the upper leaves palmately 3-lobed, lobes lanceolate. Flowers single, born in leaf axils, nearly sessile; bracteoles 8-12, red, fleshy, lanceolate. Capsules ovoid, about 1.5 cm in diameter, densely covered with coarse hairs, fruit 5; seeds kidney-shaped, glabrous. Flowering summer and autumn.
