The chemical name of tyrosine (Tyr) is 2-amino-3-p-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid, which is an aromatic polar α-amino acid containing a phenolic hydroxyl group. Tyrosine is a conditional essential amino acid and a ketogenic sugar-generating amino acid for the human body. It is soluble in water, ethanol, acid and alkali, but insoluble in ether. The aqueous solution of dextran and tyrosinase show a red color. The levorotatory body can be rubbed and emits light, and it is transformed into a racemic body by heating with barium hydroxide aqueous solution at 170°C.
