Ginsenoside is a sterol compound, triterpenoid saponin. It is found only in ginseng plants. Ginsenoside is considered as the active ingredient in ginseng.
Ginsenosides all have similar basic structures and all contain a gonane steroid core with 17 carbon atoms arranged in four rings. They are divided into two groups based on the glycosidic structure: dammarane type and oleanolane type.
Dammarane types include two types: panaxadiols and panaxatriols. Panaxadiols contain the most ginsenosides, such as ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rb3, Rc, Rd, Rg3, Rh2, and glycoside PD, and glycol saponins Rh2, CK, and Rg3 inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of cancer cells Related, has been applied clinically. Ginsenotriols include ginsenosides Re, Rg1, Rg2, Rh1, and glycosyl PT. Re and Rg1 can promote the synthesis of DNA and RNA, including genetic material of cancer cells. Ginsenosides have also been used in the study of cancer, immune response, stress, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, and the response of the central nervous system to explore the promotion or inhibition of ginsenosides on different mechanisms.
