Balsam pear (scientific name: Momordica charantia L.) Momordica is a plant of the genus Momordica, annual climbing-like weak herb, mostly branched; stems and branches are pilose. The tendrils are slender and do not diverge. Petiole slender; leaf blade membranous, green above, pale green on back, palm veins. Androgyny. Male flower pedicels slender, puberulent; bracts green, slightly marginate; calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate, white pilose; corolla yellow, lobes pilose; stamens free. Female flowers solitary, pedicel puberulent; ovary spindle-shaped, stigma swollen. The fruit is spindle-shaped or cylindrical, nodules, and orange-yellow when ripe. Seeds are oblong and engraved on both sides. Flower and fruit period: May-October.
